Web Summit AWARD

The Web Summit Award goes to the person or organization considered to have contributed most to humanity through the Internet.


Who backs it?

This award is organized by Xabier Uribe-Etxebarria, Founder and CEO of Anboto, with support from the Spanish National Commission for UNESCO and a jury of Internet experts including members of UNESCO, W3C CEO Jeff Jaffe, and Nobel laureates.


The Web Summit award

Web Summit AwardThe award is represented in a sculpture by the artist Vicente Larrea, is named after Mari, the principal deity of Basque mythology, known for "living" on the Mountain Anboto.  She is the personification of Mother Earth, and is queen of nature and all its components.

The honorary prize "Web Summit 2011" to Sir Tim Berners-Lee in recognition for his invention of the Web.



The Web Night in the Guggenheim Museum

The ceremony will be held during the Gala at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao as part of the conclusion of the Web Summit. At that time, the awards committee will also announce the organization of the 2013 award.
